- It was an early DOS box. Among other things, it is *not* IBM compatible,
- it has (most models) a thermal printer built in to the monitor casing, a
- touch-screen, an HP-1B bus, an IEEE RS-428 port, an RS-232 port, and a
- parallel port (same as on a PC). It was available with :
- 1 floppy drive (3.5", ~400k, DSSD)
- 2 floppies (same)
- 1 10Mb HD (early Seagate drive) + 1 floppy
- 1 20Mb HD (early Winchester - *BIG*!) + 1 floppy
-
- The HD units had the floppy drives built into the HD case.
- The floppy-only units had a two-floppy-drive box.
- You can daisy-chain up to (I think -- it's an HP-1B limit) 7 devices
- (including the 150 itself) -- you could (I saw it done!) have 12 floppy
- drives on one machine!
-
- >What i'd like to know is this:
- >What OS does it run?
-
- MS-DOS v2.11 (OEM)
- It had what amounted to the pre-pre-pre-pre-cursor of HP-NewWave. They
- provided a neat-looking shell/menu that it *booted* into.
-
- >What Processor does it have?
-
- 8086/8088 (depends on model. 150A was 8086, 150 was 8088)
-
- >Is there still support?
-
- Yeah, riiiight... these are from the days of the DEC Rainbow. HP will, if
- you want, take it off your hands -- and promptly destroy it and throw it in
- the trash... (*sigh*)
-
- The development kit consisted of ASM86 + C from (?? from memory here) the
- Mark Williams company. HP refused to release BIOS source or documentation
- - they used a console driver that acted like an HP2676(?) -- even in
- graphics mode. You did graphics by printing escape sequences... (*sigh*)
- Pressing on the touchscreen would act as though you typed in an escape
- sequence...
-
- Good luck!

-
- PS: much of the 'generic' software that was known to work on the DEC
- Rainbow will work on this machine...
