- I'd recommend Pegasus Mail & Charon. Pegasus mail runs on PCs (and Macs)
- attached to Novell networks. It delivers direct to users on the same
- server and can inform users when new mail arrives. Charon is a gateway
- which performs the Novell IPX <-> TCP/IP SMTP transport & protocol
- conversions, it requires a dedicated PC (I use an old 286 with no disk
- or keyboard to perform this function). It also requires the cooperation of
- a "smart mailer" to forward mail to the final destination (in my case, one
- of the campus Unix systems).
-
- I've been using the system for over a year now with great success and it has
- proved to be very reliable. Charon can also provide LPR/LPQ facilities
- enabling print jobs to be transferred between Novell & other systems.
-
- Pegasus Mail is free, but the author charges for the manuals to support
- further developments, etc. It is, however, quite easy to run & has built-in
- help screens. Charon is free & comes with excellent documentation.
-
- The current versions are charon40 & pmail235, both available from a number
- of FTP sites.
