  15.    I have gotten a lot of email reqesting more information about 
  16. XSPICE; particularly, most folks seem to want to get more info on
  17. the tools prior to reqesting a copy. This is a reasonable request,
  18. unfortunately, we do not currently have the resources to do much
  19. toward that end, at least not in real time. I may try to get more
  20. information in the form of a spec sheet or attempt to move portions
  21. of the User's Manual onto the xspice@gtri.gatech.edu host machine
  22. to allow for anonymous FTP of that information. In the mean time,
  23. I am trying to answer as many of the questions I receive as possible...
  24. please bear with me.

  26.    For those of you who just can't wait (and I hope there are at least
  27. a few of you ;-), let me suggest that you get hold of your nearest
  28. technical library, and obtain a copy of the Proceedings of the 1992
  29. International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. One of the papers
  30. presented (authors are F.Cox, W.Kuhn, S.Tynor and myself) introduces
  31. XSPICE and details an example of syntax, lists the models included,
  32. and works through an example using XSPICE to simulate the analog and
  33. digital portions (all in one netlist) of a MIDI-controlled music
  34. synthesizer. The paper should provide enough information to cover the
  35. most basic questions that have come up, but I will continue to see
  36. about getting all or portions of the User's Guide up and running.

  38. Again, bear with me. XSPICE is not a commercial product, just as
  39. "plain vanilla" SPICE is not...we don't have the resources of a
  40. MicroSim (=PSPICE) to promote the tools or help new users, although we
  41. would certainly like to. The "cost" of XSPICE is really just for
  42. documentation, cutting tapes, etc. and doesn't provide any real margin
  43. for support...we want folks to use these tools because we know ourselves
  44. how powerful they are. We are convinced that XSPICE provides most of the
  45. capabilities of a PSPICE and in many ways goes beyond it; it's up to the
  46. user community to decide if we're right.
