  23. As an experimental project for electronic report distribution, this
  24. service should complement not replace conventional methods for report
  25. distribution.

  27. Some of the reports are missing some, none, or all of their
  28. illustrations because the electronic files for these illustrations are
  29. not available.  However, figure legends are present even when the
  30. illustrations are not.

  32. If there is a discrepancy between the electronic report and the printed
  33. report, assume that the printed document is the version intended by the
  34. author(s).

  37. What Is Available:

  40. The pub/techreports/larc/92 directory contains PostScript files of
  41. reference publications, technical memorandums, technical papers, and
  42. technical translations produced at NASA Langley during 1992. The files
  43. are named by report type and number; e.g., file tm4382 contains
  44. Technical Memorandum 4382.
  45.  
  46. The directory also contains a ASCII file called abstracts.92.  This
  47. file lists the abstracts of the reports available in this directory.
  48. New reports will be added to the directory and the abstract list as
  49. they become available.
  50.  
  51. The file transfer program (FTP) lets you copy the abstracts.92 file or
  52. any of the PostScript report files to your local machine.  During the
  53. FTP session, use the "get" command to copy the files into your
  54. directory.  When the session is completed, use the "uncompress" command
  55. to restore the PostScript files.  Then, use your system print command
  56. to print the files.

  77. The abstracts.92 file can be scanned to locate information about a
  78. report in the directory. This file contains the Report Number, Funding
  79. Number, Title, Author(s), Abstract, Number of Pages, and a List of Key
  80. Terms of the reports available in the directory.

  82. Note:  To make your search easier, you may want to load this ASCII file
  83. into an editor and then use it's search capabilities.

  86. How To Print:

  89. The reports are stored in the PostScript format.  For storage efficiency,
  90. they are also compressed with the UNIX utility "compress".  They must be
  91. uncompressed with the UNIX utility "uncompress".

  93. To learn more about the compress/uncompress utilities, type "man compress" 
  94. or "man uncompress" at the command prompt.

  96. After uncompressing the report, a PostScript file remains.  This file
  97. can be printed on a PostScript printer on your network, or it can be
  98. viewed on the screen with a PostScript previewer.  Consult your system
  99. administrator for help performing these functions.
