  15. The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) has sponsored an ANSI 
  16. standards group on HCI since 1985.  While in the beginning the group was 
  17. primarily concerned with developing US standards, much of our effort in 
  18. the last five years has been focused on providing draft standards and 
  19. proposals to equivalent ISO groups.
  20.  
  21. This has been with the encouragement of ANSI, which recognizes that it 
  22. does little good to push national standards that are out of sync with 
  23. world efforts.  It's been a long process, but over the next year or two 
  24. we expect to begin publishing much of our work in one form or another.  
  25. Many of the ISO documents are also close to being approved at least as 
  26. draft standards.
