  14. Right.  David Nugent wrote a thing called "BNU" (for BBSs, etc).  It's a FOSSIL driver.  In it is a set of utilities including a TSR, which, upon pressing Control-Shift-R (or somthing like that), sticks a "RING" in the port's buffer.

  16. Install BNU and run that TSR - I'm sure this will help you out.  You can also fake "NO CARRIER", "BUSY", "CONNECT xxxx", etc.
