  37. OK. So data/fax differentiation cannot be implemented using the Silent
  38. Answer feature on a Mac.

  40. However, what I am really interested in for the moment is voice/fax 
  41. differentiation using Silent Answer. Currently, FAXstf (for the Mac)
  42. can only be set to answer NEVER or AFTER n RINGS. Do they plan to 
  43. include the option SILENT ANSWER so that an answering machine (or
  44. human) can first pick up the phone and then the fax modem will cut
  45. in if it hears fax tones. This way the fax modem can be on my regular
  46. telephone line in a transparent fashion. I do not have the need and 
  47. cannot justify a dedicated fax line at home (a poor graduate student!),
  48. so this would be ideal.
