- OK. So data/fax differentiation cannot be implemented using the Silent
- Answer feature on a Mac.
-
- However, what I am really interested in for the moment is voice/fax
- differentiation using Silent Answer. Currently, FAXstf (for the Mac)
- can only be set to answer NEVER or AFTER n RINGS. Do they plan to
- include the option SILENT ANSWER so that an answering machine (or
- human) can first pick up the phone and then the fax modem will cut
- in if it hears fax tones. This way the fax modem can be on my regular
- telephone line in a transparent fashion. I do not have the need and
- cannot justify a dedicated fax line at home (a poor graduate student!),
- so this would be ideal.
-
- I will be in touch with FAXstf about this and will post any new information
- I receive.
