- Please excuse the crosspost to dcom.servers, but I haven't seen much
- large installation traffic on dcom.modems and want to tap experience with
- setups larger than one or two standalone modems. Besides, this is more
- pertinent to .servers than the postings from people who think the group is
- for NetWare...
-
- I want to hear of experiences with rack-mountable modems. We will purchase
- more capacity later this year and I am not sure how many manufacturers are
- out there. Experiences with product quality involving standalone modems are
- o.k. if the company also makes modem racks.
-
- We currently have a rack of USR 14.4K Dual Standard modems and two racks of
- Multitech 2400/MNP. I am not interested in purchasing more USR, for various
- reasons. The Multitechs have never caused any problem and I happen to already
- have a rack for more of them, so I would be game to try more of them if they
- have a product which meets our requirements.
-
- Requirements: rack-mountable, preferrably ~16 per rack; V.32, V.32bis, MNP
- support; full hardware flow control (CTS/RTS and modem control). I especially
- want to hear of any problems involving PBX-attached modems, as the USR's have
- given us some trouble in that regard (flash time too short).
-
- We will use these for terminal server, SLIP and PPP access, most likely via an
- Annex 3.
-
- Thanks. I will post a summary.
