- Hi all,
-
- This is my first experience with this group. I am looking to buy a fax/modem.
- But, I would like to learn more about the lingo which describes the features
- of modems.
-
- That is, please explain to me what v32, v.32bis, v.42bis, and MNP4 and 5
- are. I understand some are for error correction and some are for data
- compression. Which are the current standards? Are these all hardware
- implemented? What are the advantages/disadvantages or flaws with any of
- these 'features'? Should I be looking for anything in particular? I would
- appreciate some general knowledge on any or all of these to aid in my
- purchasing decision.
-
- Please e-mail responses and if you wish I will post a summary. Thank you
- all very much in advance.
-
- Sincerely,
-
- Robert Kayman ---- kayman@cs.stanford.edu
