- Hello all, I hope this isn't an FAQ, I have been evaluating (on trial)
- oracle (os2 - unix - dos) for construction of a network - available
- lab-testing dbms for our R&D labs. Our MIS shop has asked that we look
- at ingres (we have a very big ask/manman system which _might_ someday
- becom a manman/x - ingres implementation). My requirements are as
- follows, in order of importance:
-
- end-user access (engineers, technicians) to dbms over net at the
- application level (we like Pioneer's Q&E tool)
-
- cross - network NOS function, Oracle _seems_ capable of working
- between tcp/ip, IPX/SPX, and netbios environments.
-
- good 3rd party support
-
- in the long term: good s/w development tools, We are starting without
- forms and 4gl, but will probably want these next year.
-
- also, how well do these two systems exchange data today? Prospects for
- the future?
-
- thanks, forrest
