  15.     I'll have to go back and reread the requirements for making a newsgroup,
  16. but for the time being, I am posting this up so that I can get a rough idea
  17. of how many people would be willing to support a natural language newsgroup.
  18. I am hoping that everyone has returned back from the holidays.

  20.    Here's an outline of a charter.   Suggest improvements, and pretty soon
  21. we can make a formal call for discussion.

  26.      Name: comp.ai.natural-lang
  27.      Moderated?:  Unmoderated
  28.      Purpose:   To discuss issues related to natural language, especially
  29.                 but not solely the kind of issues that researchers in
  30.                 AI would consider important to natural language.   This
  31.                 would include issues such as:

  33.                     * Natural Language Understanding
  34.                     * Natural Language Generation
  35.                     * Machine Translation
  36.  
  37.                 Issues related to specific research being done in the
  38.                 field may also be considered.

  46. would vote for such a group or not.  If neither, then you do not need
  47. to send mail.   If you have suggestions, or would like to help, please
  48. send either of us or both, e-mail.

  50.     Despite my interest in setting up this newsgroup, I should warn
  51. you that I consider myseld only a novice in the area.  So, any questions
  52. concerning anything related to natural language issues should wait
  53. about half a year or so.  If the vote is successful, we can set up
  54. some anonymous ftp site to hold FAQ information.
