  21. Oh, this is very naive. Even in trivial situations when "fairness"
  22. and "quality" have a precise meaning they might be in conflict
  23. (e.g., Arrow's paradox). And in the non-trivial case of the ill-defined
  24. "science" of AI, comparison of quality is almost meaningless.
  25. I'm not trying to say that "everything goes" and some reasonable
  26. approximation of scientific value should not be strived for.
  27. But the belief in objective criteria, and the possibility to implement
  28. them by human beings with a necessariliy limited point of view and 
  29. with bounded mental resources is false.

  31. About anonymity - I think the anonymity of referees is more disturbing.
  32. And I will use this opportunity to signal the anonymous referees
  33. of the truely-exceptional, breathtaking, classical-even-before-accepted
  34. paper that I have submitted (yes, I did, and *not* for the materialistic 
  35. reasons of financing a one-hour trip from Grenoble to Chambery), that
  36. they can identify my authorship by the fact that the number of occurrences
  37. of the letter 'a' in my paper is prime. Any of you guys, who will succeed
  38. in proving him/her self as an author of a positive referee report on
  39. that (really great) paper, is invited to a dinner during the conference
  40. (wine and discussion on the meaning of life, whether humans can think
  41. etc. are included).

  43. (Should I use the :-)- notation? Doesn't the word referee has some double
  44. 'f' or double 'r' somewhere? Let's leave some open questions for the
  45. journal version).
