  21. "Homeless" doesn't mean you can't afford clothes.  It means without
  22. a home.  People do donate leather jackets and Air Jordans to shelters,
  23. he could have gotten them there for all we know.

  25. What would you rather see, a wino in tattered clothes?  There are homeless
  26. who just can't find a job and can't afford rent, and those that are 
  27. what most people would call "bums" - drunk all day and not caring.

  29. If the guy who wants a chance to feed his family or is single and
  30. saves 8 months to buy the $200 shoes is actually getting the money
  31. from selling the paper, more power to him.  Hey, if he lived in 
  32. a Mercedes I'd be happy for him.  Someone has given him a chance to
  33. work instead of beg, and he's taking advantage of it.  You can't say
  34. he's not trying.  It's a heck of a lot easier to buy 1 pair of $200
  35. shoes than pay $500+ in rent every month.  No matter how many months
  36. he works, he can eventually save up $200.  He just can't save $500
  37. by the end of the month (plus everything else).

  39. I've read the paper, and it's actually pretty good.  Almost like
  40. the Reader.  They aren't selling junk, and they're trying to work
  41. and get on their feet.

  43. But, this is all speculation.  Why don't you ask the guy where he
  44. got the shoes?  Tell him you want to buy a pair like those if you're
  45. bashful.  Me, I'd just say "How'd ya get the $'s for those Air Jordans?"
