  12. science fiction writers, global thinkers and others needed for the:

  14. Electric Vehicle and the American Community
  15. NATIONAL PLANNING AND 
  16. DESIGN COMPETITION
  17.                 
  18. Electric Vehicles are coming!  One day soon, they will be as much a 
  19. part of our lives as gasoline engine vehicles are today.  Southern 
  20. California Edison and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power 
  21. invite you to help turn the vision of clean electric transportation 
  22. into the reality of electric vehicles on our streets.  You could be 
  23. among the few who will decide how electric vehicles will shape our 
  24. communities and our lives by entering the "Electric Vehicle and the 
  25. American Community Planning and Design Competition."  
  26.                 
  27. Teams participating in this national competition will be challenged 
  28. to envision creative solutions to infrastructure adaptations required 
  29. by electric vehicles.  Professionals such as architects, urban planners 
  30. and engineers will work as teams to design convenient recharging 
  31. methods, link energy and transportation policies and demonstrate how 
  32. land and energy use can be shaped to meet the needs of electric 
  33. vehicle users.

  35. The sponsors of this competition, including General Motors, Hughes Power 
  36. Control Systems, the U.S. Department of Energy and some of the nation's 
  37. leading regional utilities, want the teams to come up with fresh 
  38. inventive ideas.  Electric vehicles are an entirely new technology that 
  39. has potential to cut smog in Southern California dramatically.  But the 
  40. true heroes will be the planners, architects and engineers who design 
  41. ways to make the technology work in our current environment.

  49.         interested individuals

  51.         Discuss issues that apply to our region and community

  53.         Provide an opportunity for potential teammates to meet 
  54.         one another
  55.  
  56.         Direct entrants to resources and background information 
  57.         they may need
