- This is an excellent suggestion if one has the money or gets a grant. As
- a footnote, though, I recently received a grant where the grantors were
- perfectly willing to have me use the money to pay the university computing
- dept. to scan texts and hire a student to proofread the files so that I
- can Textbase or Orbis (I still like Format 6 the best and Orbis won't)
- them, but the grant specifically stated that I was not to use any of the
- money for "word processing costs" (Thank goodness none of the granting
- committee had ever heard of NB or they might have said that Textbasing is
- the same as word processing). I'm not sure of their rationale, but such a
- rule would seem to preclude Ada's wise recommendation.

- We should also be aware that some scholarly publishing houses these days
- are not "houses" at all, but one dedicated scholar who makes deals with
- printers, designers, binders, etc., so there is no real "in-house" to do
- such work. Some of these people do an amazing service to scholarship.
