- SUBJECT: RE: Multi-lingual scholar
-
- I've never used MLS, but yesterday I received a brochure from Gamma
- Productions in Santa Monica, CA. Multi-Lingual Scholar 4.1a is a special
- version that includes only two alphabets: "all the Roman based European
- languages, plus [the purchaser's choice of] one non-Roman alphabet"--the chlice
- includes Arabic/Persian, Burmese, Georgian, Gujaratic, IPA, Korean, Malayalam,
- Cyrillic, and many others. If ordered before Feb. 15 it is $149.95, after that
- date $249.95. They claim the following features, among others: Edit up to 8
- docs. simultaneously, "2 alphabets with unlimited fonts in any file", spell
- checking for Englihs and "most Western European languages", and "spell check
- multi-language files in one pass", "style sheets simplify formatting of
- documents", bitmap font scaling on the fly.
-
- MLS 4.1 Professional ($695) offers in addition Font Scholar for editing fonts,
- utility for editing keyboard map files, CTIU for importking and exporting
- multi-lg. or non-ASCII files. Also, it seems that a few alphabets available
- with Professional aren't available with 4.1a: Amharic, Coptic, Hieroglyphic,
- Phoenician, Syriac, Sanscrit (though Hindi is avail. in 4.1a), Ugaritic.
-
- Personally, I could do without lots of what I think of as technical
- capabilities, but would love to have IPA and Arabic in NB. And they could add
- these, so easily!! What are they waiting for?
