- **Apologies for the trunctated note; apparently the nertwork mailer does not
- like lines that begin with periods** Here's the entire note:
-
- Greetings: John, Frederik, et. al.
-
- Over the weekend I reported and had confirmed a serious problem with
- the "reinsert" function for end/footnotes. I had quite a bit of time
- invested in editing and 86 note chapter, so I looked into things quite
- closely. I am happy to report I have found a fix, but I'm not sure
- exactly what is involved or how reliable it will be.
-
- First, I created a very simple test file with 86 notes. It looked
- like:
-
- This is a note.(1)
- This is a note.(2)
- etc.
-
- This file extracted and inserted without a problem. That set me to
- look for differences in the structure of the real notes. The only one
- I found is that I had occasionally ended a note with a paragraph
- marker, which leaves and extra line in the *.fn1 file when viewed in
- expanded mode. I removed all such instances and lo and behold, the
- notes reinserted without a problem.
-
- I hope this will prove workable for other problem chapters. I wonder
- why the program doesn't like extra blank lines?
-
- ____________
- 1 note
- 2 note
- etc.
