- It is actually possible to get 629Kb in DRDOS if you use either NDOS (which
- comes with Norton Utilities) or 4DOS as the command shell. I use NDOS but one
- could download 4DOS from
- SIMTEL20 where it has its own subdirectory . Include the following line in your
- CONFIG.SYS:
-
- Shell=(drive and path)NDOS.COM (drive and path) /U /P /E:512U
-
- This loads NDOS as a Replacement for COMMAND.COM. For various reasons its code
- leaves less code in conventional memory.
-
- NDOS and 4Dos also work well with MSDOS which is where I use it. DRDOS and
- Zenith 101 laptops don't mix well if you are a European User. The 102nd key in
- all European keyboards is the backslash and not all programs read the
- reprogrammed ANSI keyboard. I suppose that these differences are one way of
- making sure that European users pay far too much for their computers. It has
- certainly stopped me from buying computers from GATEWAY 2000 whose Texas
- Instruments sourced laptops were once top of my shopping list.
