  13. I can't resist a plug here for OS/2...

  15. before OS/2 I used DOS 5.0, QEMM, DESQview and tweaked and tweaked to
  16. maximize memory.  When I installed OS/2 I just stipulated that I
  17. wanted DOS=HIGH,UMB and that I wanted 4dos as my command shell, and
  18. didn't tweak at all.  This is the memory report I just got in a basic
  19. DOS window:

  21.      655,360 bytes total DOS RAM
  22.      644,144 bytes free
  23.  
  24. and that's without restricting the video to mono mode (do that and you
  25. get quite a bit more memory, like VIDRAM in QEMM or other utilities
  26. that let you use those video addresses).
