- We installed the ASCII ProQuest 4.0 software last Friday. The only UMI
- product we have is the five year file of ABI/INFORM that comes on two
- CD-ROMs. With the old software we had to list each ABI disc as a separate
- choice on our Direct Access menu. 4.0 allows us to mount ABI as 2 CDs with
- Optinet. Now we just have one menu choice for ABI/INFORM since the ProQuest
- software lets users select which ABI/INFORM disc they want to search.
- Another improvement I really like is 4.0's timeout feature. Now the
- application will timeout and return to our Direct Access menu rather than just
- flash the ProQuest logo.
-
- The bugs we have noticed so far are the following:
-
- We install the software on each PC on our LAN; we do not run the
- software off the fileserver. Two PC were freezing when they tried
- to load the ProQuest software. UMI's tech support suggested making
- a change in the "System Options - General." For the problem PCs we
- changed the "Enable ProQust screen saver" form "YES" to "NO." This
- fixed the problem.
-
- We set the options for downloading to the maximum; 9,999. However;
- the software is only letting us download 750 items.
-
- A message on the screen displayed after pressing any key to remove
- the ProQuest logo, the "Select Database" screen, says "Press the
- SPACEBAR to see more detailed information." When the spacebar is
- pressed a message saying "error opening help file" is displayed.
-
- We do not know what is causing the last two problems and I have not
- received any suggestions from UMI. Overall, I think the 4.0 software is
- an improvement and so do our users.
