- I think it's the latter (blood flow), but I never came across a definitive
- explanation. I've always assumed that you don't hear blood flow because
- of some active cancellation process, not because it's too quiet. The sea
- shell could provide enough time delay to throw off the cancellation. (For
- a related effect, try eating sometime while wearing headphones, even the
- lightweight walkman type. You'll be surprised at how much noise your jaws
- make that you don't normally hear.)
