- Don't use those cleaning tapes! They typically have an abrasive agent on
- the tape that is intended to clean, but in fact may damage the video heads.
- The right way to clean VCR heads is to open the unit up and use a
- foam- or chamois-tipped swab to do the cleaning. (Don't use a cotton-tipped
- swab, the fibers can really foul things up.)

- Most libraries and bookstores have books on VCR repair that include complete
- cleaning instructions. Otherwise, take it to a shop and have them do it for
- you. Usually, as long as you have the box open it's a good idea to replace
- all the belts and maybe the idler wheel at the same time.
