- News, we've got Factsheet Five news.
-
- As this is my first posting (in awhile) across a bunch of newsgroups, let
- me inform those who don't know already that the >printed< version of
- Factsheet Five is now real. First class and bulk subscriptions / sample
- issues have been mailed.
-
- [For those of you who don't know what Factsheet Five is: F5 is the central
- clearinghouse of information about zines. Zines are small magazines
- published by one or a few people, often xeroxed, and always a labor of
- love instead of being yet another product. The rest of this article will
- have a couple of pointers for you.]
-
- Next, we have several files almost ready to go for subscribers to the
- electronic version of F5. The Queer Zine Explosion from Holy Titclamps is
- almost complete. The punk zine reviews from MaximumRockNRoll #118 will be
- ready soon. I've reviewed about 60 science fiction & fantasy zines of all
- sorts, from the truly amazing Klingon fanzine "The Agonizer" to
- "Zoomorphica" a new zine of original fiction about furries that includes a
- story by Lawrence Watt-Evans. We've been gagging over the poetry zines,
- finding two or three that were good and the rest............
-
- After those go out, we'll be working on the one category of zines that most
- fascinates people: the rants, the cranks, the Nazis, the conspiracies, the
- UFO contactees, the people who talk to God, the people who ARE god and all
- sorts of weird and wonderful people who live in a private reality yet feel
- the need to tell the world about it.
-
- If you wish to subscribe to FactSheet Five - Electric, just email me.
- Please DO NOT include any of this article, as such a practice annoys me
- tremendously, causes me more work, and will lead to a delay in your sub.
- F5-E comes in two flavors, "issue" and "update" Update subscribers get
- files as they become available. The four files due out Real Soon will go
- to the update subscribers. Issue subscribers get 20-30 files all at once
- (when I feel like I have enough stuff to make an issue of it) as 20-30
- discrete letters. I most appreciate an empty letter with "subscribe update"
- "subscribe issue" or "subscribe both" as the subject.
-
- If you wish to pick up the files that comprise F5-E via anonymous ftp, the
- site is moving to red.css.itd.umich.edu (along with practically every other
- radical ezine in cyberspace). ftp over and cruise around. I'm sure that
- pauls put the files in some logically named place. My file names are not,
- alas, too logically named as yet, but I'm working on it. A Gopher/Archie/
- Veronica site is being set up here on The WELL. When it becomes operative,
- rest assure I'll let the whole bloody Net know about it.
-
- If you wish to learn more about F5, F5-E and zines in general, then regular
- channels might help. Mike Gunderloy (the founder of Factsheet Five) was
- interviewed by Entertainment Tonight. ET promises the broadcast to be
- "late next week." So if you can stomach watching it the week of the 25-30
- you might learn something. I was interviewed by Computer Chronicles and
- the uplink is scheduled for Tuesday, 26 January. Computer Chronicles is
- broadcast by many PBS affiliates. Here in the Bay Area it will be shown
- on KQED 1/28/93 at 1:00 pm and KCSM (channel 60) 1/29/93 at 9:00 pm.
- Also, the Washington Post interviewed the people involved in the print
- version (Mike, Seth and alledgedly Hudson), a story should be printed soon.
- Details For Men sent a reporter out here to Frisco to interview me, Seth
- and a bunch of other zinesters. Look for that article in March, April or
- May.
