- Yes, the fuel pump might be suspect, but I would expect it to take
- shorter distance than 5 miles to act up. You might chekc the vacuum
- line that drives the pump and make sure it isn't colapsing, pluggewd,
- or leaking (jeez my typeing sucks today). I have had the air bubble
- in the gas line thing happen to me, but it didn't affect the way the
- machine ran.
-
- Does the Cat run ok if you stay in the throttle? Have you pulled a
- plug and looked at it when this happens? It might be loading up or
- even overheating while you cruise along and then after you stop for
- a few minutes to fiddle with the fuel line, it cools off enough to
- then run again.
-
- Have you done anything to the machine recently such as jumping, hit
- a tree, any kind of severe jarring? You might have a float level
- problem. Any kind of sever jar can (however remotely) affect the
- float levels. What carbs does it run? Seems like the old El Tigre
- I had used Mukunis. Adjusting the float is really simple if that is
- the case. You just take the bowl off the bottom of the carb and
- sight along the flat surface to which the bowl mates. The brass float
- tangs should be parrallel to this surface. You can carefully bend the
- float valve tang to adjust this level.
