- GILLAN: PURPLE REUNION "ONE_OFF"
-
- DEEP PURPLE *have* reformed, and have already recorded several tracks for a
- new album, but IAN GILLAN, in a phone call to Metal Hammer's offices,
- revealed that he is approaching the whole project with caution. Not only
- that, but he insists that this will not be a reformation as such, more a
- one-off project.
-
- "We are writing songs here in Germany, the concept being to put them
- together as a 25th anniversary album. I don't know what happened to
- Joe Lynn Turner, but all of a sudden I had a phone call from Roger [Glover]
- saying 'So what about it?'
-
- "Needless to say, after what went down before I was very tentative about it.
- But after talking to a lot of friends I found that the very mention of
- a Purple reunion put a gleam in most people's eyes. So I thought it'd be
- trite not to do it, and if it's on the basis of a project, *not* a reunion,
- because we made arses of ourselves last time, then maybe it'll work.
-
- "But there are some volatile personalities within this band. It's rather
- like walking on egg-shells most of the time, but I think it's that chemistry
- which has always made theworking environment either billiant or bloody
- awful. So we're trying not to speculate too much in case it doesn't
- work out, but the new songs are absolutely blinding. I've been asked not
- only about the new album, but also about promotional work and some
- gigs as well, and I do live touring...so who knows?"
-
- Meanwhile Ian is currently undertaking the *third* rewrite of his
- autobiography, which has already taken him over two years to assemble.
