- Hi,
- Just wanted to say that everybody should look forward to a new Glenn
- Hughes album in late February or so, I think. The album will be
- called "The Boy Can Sing The Blues." It has a bunch of LA metal
- musicians on it, and I got lucky enough to get an advance copy to
- listen to (no trades, tho, sorry). Just to let everyone know,
- here is the track listing as it stands now:
-
- Boy Can Sing The Blues
- I'm The Man
- The Rebel
- What Can I Do For Ya?
- You Don't Have To Save Me
- So Much Love To Give
- Shake The Ground
- Hey Buddy
- Have You Read The Book
- Life of Misery
- Can't Take Away My Pride
- Right To Live
-
- Basically, this album is L.A._Metal-Blues type stuff, and the performances
- are competent, and energetic, but generic. There are a couple of kick ass
- virtually-no-deviation-from-straight-metal tunes, lots of blues shuffles
- played by metal musicians, and of course a ballady/soulful song or
- two. But this still is a keeper for when it comes out in February.
- The reason its a keeper is GLEN HUGHES!!! Of course, as always, Glenn
- turns out a passionate, soulful, smooth, powerful performance, as he has
- done on almost every thing (obscure or otherwise) he lays vocal chords
- to. I'm still amazed by what he can do with his voice, and i wonder
- why he hasnt made it bigger! Well, i know why, he used to have major
- drug problems, but managed to kick them (for good i hope) a couple of years
- ago. Anyway, Glenn will astound on this album, and as everybody knows,
- he was on the John Norum-Face the Truth album. And in my opinion Glenn
- is the saving grace of that album (Norum's). Anyway, in the spirit of
- info to Hughes fans, I figured i'd post this.
-
- Also, ill note that Glenn was supposed to be on the vocals on "Video
- Killed the Radio Star" on geoff downes new solo album Vox Humana.
- But the Japanese(i think) record company already released it. Soon Geoff will
- rework the album, and hopefully include Glenn's version of the Vocal.
- Who knows what the album will then be called outside its original release
- area. I think this info is already making the rounds by now, these
- things get out as one watches time go by, eh? But i just mentioned it
- cause of the connection. Its kinda cool. And finally, i wanna say
- that ive seen Vox Humana reviewed so i wont do it here, but Ill recommend it
- to anyone who likes either the Buggles, Current-style asia, or GTR
- for that matter. It has elements of all 3, and its really cool! Of course,
- some think those bands are sometimes cheezy, but i love those bands, and Vox
- Humana captures only the best aspects of these, and some fine Vocal
- works IMHO. So Im just saying its cool if youre into Geoff.
-
- And Just WHAT are 'Mandolin I, Mandolin II and Seraphim', the cassettes
- in Steve Howe's car he scoots around in with his son on the Asia tour?
- When one catches little glimpses like this, it makes ya wonder: "Steve's
- fav mandolin tunes? Or steve going over some private mandolin recordings
- of his own playing?" Probably the former, but it makes me wish at that
- instant to have had telepathy. Or Balls and a Brick. ;> Oh well,
- later all! Respond via email if ya just wanna chew the e-fat on hughes,
- etc.
