- I recently went into a record store which had a couple of "THE CALL"
- cassettes for sale. Does anyone know who this group is and who are the
- members. Are they anyone famous? Are their cassettes worth buying?
-
- thanks in advance

- ===========================================
-
- Sure do, I've seen them in concert four times.
-
- The Call originates from Santa Cruz, CA. Lead singer/bass player Michael
- Been was originally in a 60s-ish psychedelic band called H.P. Lovecraft
- and then disappeared for awhile before The Call started up. From the
- top of my head the albums are...
-
- 1. The Call (released in 82 or 83)
-
- 2. Modern Romans (released in 1983)
- The big song from this album is "When The Walls Came Down" which was a minor
- hit. A video was in heavy rotation on MTV for awhile. They opened up for
- Peter Gabriel during Gabriel's "Plays Live" tour in summer 1983.
-
- 3. <I forget the title of this one> (released in 1984)
- This is the last of the albums for Mercury Records.
-
- 4. Reconciled (released in 1986)
- "Everywhere You Go" was the single from this album. "I Still Believe" (but
- not The Call version) was featured in the movie "The Lost Boys." Guests
- on this album include Robbie Robertson, Peter Gabriel, Jim Kerr (Simple Minds),
- Garth Hudson. By this time The Call was now a four piece (down from five
- members originally) with Michael Been taking over the bass (a good move IMHO).
-
- 5. Into The Woods (released in 1987 or 88)
- "I Don't Wanna" was released as a single and the accompianing video was
- moderately rotated on MTV.
-
- 6. Let The Day Begin (released in 1989)
- "Let The Day Begin" released as single
-
- 7. Red Moon (released in 1990)
-
-
- The first three albums are long out of print, but a CD compilation called
- "When The Walls Came Down: The best of the Mercury years" was released in
- 1991.
-
- My picks? Definately spend your lunch money on Reconciled, Into The Woods,
- and the When The Walls Came Down compilation. Spend someone else's lunch
- money on the last two (but definately get them though!). When I last
- saw them in 1991, they were recording a series of shows for a possible
- live album. Garth Hudson and Harry Dean Stanton joined them for the latter
- part of the show.
-
- Hope that helps,
-
- Chris
