  19. It is actually a TV series of 6 * 2 hour episodes, made by the Bavarian Film
  20. Studios outside Munich.  Columbia in the US took these episodes and edited it
  21. down into a two hour film.  The film is called 'The Boat', which is pretty
  22. silly as the translation of 'Das Boot' is 'The Submarine'.  I have never seen
  23. the film, so I do not know whether it was subtitled or dubbed (the TV series
  24. was subtitled when showed in the UK a few years back), but I have seen a video
  25. for it on RCA/Columbia - it came out in the mid '80s
