  33. Quoting from Webster's New World Dictionary, second college edition:

  41. Unless you've got a different dictionary, there is nothing on the same
  42. continent as "hopelessly contrary" in these two words.  If you go with
  43. definition (1) of subdue, you have "dominion," which you seem to think
  44. everyone agrees we have; if you go with (5), you have essentially "to
  45. farm."  The other three definitions of subdue admittedly do not seem to
  46. make sense in this context.
