Hello: I have a proposal that may be of interest to some of you out there who
may be tired of the noise and unnecessary flaming that is going on on these
newsgroups. I'll try to keep it short, sweet, and simple.

I run a small data processing business and was introduced to the net a couple
of months ago. I was delighted that there are newsgroups such as
alt.personals whose primary reason for being, I thought, was for people to
post personal ads and solicit correspondence from others that may lead to
mutually satisfying friendships or more. Unfortunately, this does not appear
to be the case. I've read so many complaints about fake messages, people
flaming each other without any reason, etc. I'll not be surprised if many
readers, especially women, have become lurkers and cynics; refusing to
believe most of what is posted here. I thought there must be other ways for
people to find the kind of friend or potential partner that they are looking
for. The following is what I have come up with:

For the past couple of months I began contacting publishers of singles
newspapers and magazines across the USA. I asked them the following question:
What if I asked people on the net to send in their personal ads to me. I will
compile them weekly and send them to these singles magazines for publication.
I asked the publishers whether they will be willing to publish your personal
ads and forward all responses to you WITHOUT CHARGING YOU (or me) A FEE? What
is the incentive for them to publish your ad for free? They collect a
forwarding fee (about $2) from those who respond to your ad. Your personal ad
is published without your address (a response code is assigned). I have
reached agreement with 12 magazines so far and I am continuing arrangements
or waiting to hear from other publishers.

In addition to the service just described, I will also set up a computer
bulletin board that will be accessible by modem from any where in the USA or
Canada, for a modest fee (phone charge). When I receive your personal ads, I
will post them to the bulletin board, without your address, and also send
them to the magazines. Responses to your ad on the bulletin board will be
forwarded to you by snail mail, at no charge to you. I should have the
bulletin board up and running as soon as I get the first couple dozen ads or
so.

HOW AND WHERE TO SEND YOUR ADS
Type your ad on a blank sheet of paper. Include your snail mail address
(street address, p.o. box) to which responses to your ad will be forwarded.
Again, your address will NOT be published. Please, do not send me ads by e
mail. Do Not use any abbreviations (SM, SF, DM, etc) even if they seem like
very common abbreviations. I am not imposing any word limit on your ad, but
each newspaper or magazine will have the right to edit your ad as space
permits. My advice is that you keep it short. You must be 18 yrs or older. Do
not send ads that are sexually explicit; such ads may be extensively edited
or rejected by some of the publishers. It is okay to ask respondents to send
you pictures of themselves since all responses will be by snail mail.

There is no fee for this service, since this is an introductory message and
in keeping with the noncommercial policy of the net. However, I run a
business, not a charity organization. Your ad will have to be typeset,
duplicated, and mailed to various publishers; and my employees do not work
for free. So, if you would like to send us a donnation with your ad, we will
appreciate that. You don't have to. You may send cash, check, or money order

If ther are readers from countries other than the US (Canada, Europe, etc),
yes we will accept ads from any country. Just send your ad to the above
address. And donations are accepted in any currency. Keep in mind that only
people in the US will be able to respond to your ad.

NOTE: This offer is valid until Feb. 28, 1993, i.e. to be accepted, your
letters must be post marked by that date. After Feb. 28, there will be a fee
for this service (and I will not be *advertising* on the net. Okay?). If you
read this after Feb. 28 and are interested, send us a request for an
application form to the above address. I do not know what the telephone
number for the bulletin board will be. It's not been set up. I will not post
the number on the net, but if you are interested in accessing the bulletin
board, send me an e-mail message. I will send you the number when the board
is up. Feel free to send me e-mail messages if you have any question(s). One
thing I can assure you, your privacy will NOT be compromised. It's a promise.
If you are one of those who feels like flaming people, go ahead, make my day!
There's just one problem; I do not acknowledge flames (I simply delete them)
neither will I participate in any mindless debates. It is really okay to send
me messages about any legitimate questions you may have, but I hope this
message and instructions are clear enough so that my mail box is not flooded
