  13. I'm involved with producing version 2 of our Mickeysoft Lan
  14. Manager based Lan software.  We're migrating from Lan Manager V
  15. 1.1 to Lan Manager 2.1a. As well as this, we have redesigned our
  16. server environments, and user environments, upgrading to newer
  17. versions of boring DOS stuff like Windows 3.1, WFW2, Excel 4 and
  18. all that sorta shit.

  20. The headache is going from our locally labelled '1.7' release, to
  21. the new 2.0 platform.

  23. Migration of umpty ump thousand users is a MAJOR PAIN.

  25. I _thought_ I had nothing to do with migration, since I did other
  26. bits and pieces of the system, and was meant to be going on to do
  27. the documentation [major spew avoided there!]. However, the guy
  28. who designed the migration process went on two weeks leave, and
  29. we had to have it NOW. So yours truly had to sit down and work
  30. out how to do this magic automatically.

  34. No thanks to Microsoft for changing the way access information is
  35. kept.

  37. No thanks to Microsoft for having buggy lanmangler code.

  39. No thanks to Microsoft for forcing us to stay with OS/2 1.3 on
  40. our server platforms, because Lan Manager will NOT run with any
  41. version of OS/2 higher than this.

  43. No thanks to Microsoft for their spewable applications, which
  44. insist on hard-coded paths.

  46. No thanks to Microsoft for their lamentable lack of product
  47. support.

  49. No thanks to the thickhead who designed the OS/2 MOVE command.

  51. No thanks to the guy who 'designed' the Migration process, and
  52. left it up to someone else to implement.  Sheesh.

  54. Tonight we tried the migration.  4 hours of fucking around, and
  55. 30 minutes of trying my REXX script, and finding that there were
  56. odd cases that were just horrendous catch-22 situations.
