  20. A few months ago I was teaching some Mac classes on SEs that had been
  21. "upgraded" to System 7.  Besides having to do the translation of System
  22. 6 *and* System 7 "...and if you're using System 6 you'll see this, but 
  23. since the university here has graced us with System 7...", I had to
  24. explain a *minimum* of three times a class that yes, the machine would
  25. respond slowly to commands, and no, hitting the key *several* times
  26. would not make it go faster.

  32. But System 7 is kinda cool for several reasons:

  38. network are set so you can access any file. Delete files from disks
  39. without having to leave your desk! Insert rude suggestions in the 
  40. middle of users' documents! It's fun!

  42. !Peeve: It's winter. Tell naive users that the computers are taking longer
  43. to work because they're cold. Tell them that rubbing the computer while
  44. they work will make it go a lot faster.

  46. And whatdayaknow, in the summer the computers will be too warm. Better
  47. blow on them to speed them up.
