-
- Methinks that the problem is not with visualization of objects but with
- focused meditation. Solve the latter and the former will take care of
- itself (for the most part).
-
- I find that it is easiest to start with fields of solid color - no figures
- at all. Then I work on enhancements/refinements to the color. Once I have
- the color down, I go to shapes of that color and then to objects.
-
- As to the chaos problem ... I suggest that you aren't giving yourself
- fully to the task at hand. My father once told me that I had to decide
- whether I wanted to be a Buddhist or a Magus. Did I want to be "at one"
- with the Universe (my mind) or did I want to "control it"?
-
- If you want to control your mind, you must train it to your will. Start
- with a task that should be achievable, but cannot be achieved without
- concentration. The visualization is a good exercise. Each time you
- discover an errant thread of consciousness, refocus it on the assigned
- task. With time and practice you will find that the straying happens
- less frequently and that it is corrected more easily and with less
- interruption. Your success in visualization should improve in direct
- proportion to your discipline.
-
- When you can succeed at a simple visualization, move on to more complex
- ones - so that you can use more of your mind, while still retaining focus.
-
- As others have suggested, the key here is dedication to the practice and
- to the results of the practice.
