  29. The loss you state could be correct, however the monies I was referring
  30. to, or more appropriately, what I "thought" I heard on the local news,
  31. were in relationship to the "loss of revenues" from the broken meters.
  32. These "loss of revenues" is derived NOT so much from the nickels and 
  33. quarters from the meters, but from the fines imposed on expired meters.
  34. I don't know what the parking fines are in San Francisco, but I am
  35. certain the city collects thousands per month in fines alone.
  36. Monies are also generated for the towing and impounding of the vehicles.
  37. It is apparently BIG business. The additional expense of replacing
  38. the meters is also high, which is also added to the "loss of revenues".
