-
- Brazil converted to alcohol about ten years ago. They have few
- accessible petroleum supplies and rely mostly on imported fuel and oil,
- which doesn't help their foreign trade problems.
-
- The Brazilian government subsidized production of alcohol, but a couple
- of years ago they finally relented and let the gas-burners back on the
- road. Even in Brazil's typically warm weather there were starting
- problems, fuel economy stank, and despite subsidies the alcohol was
- quite expensive.
