- [As a fact I know that most not all dragster tend to run rear axles
- in the mid three range with an even greater selection of ratios
- from quick change rear axles.]
-
- The choice of rear axles is limited, due to TF rules (I'll check my NHRA rule
- book during lunch) to no higher than the mid 3's. This was a move done to try
- to limit top speed. Most of the TF classes are more traction limited than
- horsepower limited (ever see a blistered TF slick ... usually occurs when they
- have tire spin AT THE TOP END ... 250+ mph!!!!). As a result, the clutch
- management system is the key to applying the horsepower to the track .... they
- even have a 1 1/2" exhaust pipe between the rear wheels just for the clutch
- dust. That's the cloud of dark material you see when they launch.... at 5+ Gs
- and 60 foot times in the 0.80 sec range @ 120 mph+. Next year expect to see
- more 4.70s and consistent 4.80s and alot more 300 mph runs. The funny cars may
- even squeak a 4.99 or very low 5.0. Should be exciting!
-
- Bottom line of all this rambling? I think that TF rear axle ratios may be more
- complicated than something like Pro Comp or Super Comp.....

- [I've not gotten this year's NHRA rules yet but last year the axle ratio
- was limited to 3.20:1. Is this still the case? I hope not. JGD]
