  24. Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing.  My '89 Mustang has been
  25. fed Mobil 1 10W30 since new (100K ago), and recently I switched to
  26. Amsoil (mostly for the warm fuzzy feeling :-) for an open track event.

  28. I have not been able to find any comparative information on synthetic
  29. motor oils except from the manufacturers, who of course insist their
  30. brand is best.  Prices cover a 3:1 spread, with Mobil 1 the cheapest
  31. and Red Line the most outrageous.  It would be nice to know what
  32. you're getting for the money.

  38. Amsoil put out a blurb on Castrol Syntec that basically said it just
  39. barely meets the 5W spec, and with that wide a viscosity range it had
  40. to be using a ton of viscosity index (VI) improvers.  VI improvers
  41. tend to break down over time, leaving you an oil that is too thin and
  42. breakdown products that litter the combustion chamber.

  44. If anyone out there has found a source of unbiased information about
  45. different synthetic oils, please let us know!
