- Hi Jeff! Still got a line on those gel-cell batteries?
-
- Yeah, I have been wondering the same thing. My '89 Mustang has been
- fed Mobil 1 10W30 since new (100K ago), and recently I switched to
- Amsoil (mostly for the warm fuzzy feeling :-) for an open track event.
-
- I have not been able to find any comparative information on synthetic
- motor oils except from the manufacturers, who of course insist their
- brand is best. Prices cover a 3:1 spread, with Mobil 1 the cheapest
- and Red Line the most outrageous. It would be nice to know what
- you're getting for the money.

-
- Amsoil put out a blurb on Castrol Syntec that basically said it just
- barely meets the 5W spec, and with that wide a viscosity range it had
- to be using a ton of viscosity index (VI) improvers. VI improvers
- tend to break down over time, leaving you an oil that is too thin and
- breakdown products that litter the combustion chamber.
-
- If anyone out there has found a source of unbiased information about
- different synthetic oils, please let us know!
