- the reason the article was interesting is that by a combination
- of time and frequency domain analysis bats are able to identify
- specific charateristics of flying objects. i was thinking of
- being able to identify specific charateristics of automobiles
- in motion or stopped. for example one could determine if a
- car had a ski rack mounted on their roof. or one could determine
- if there was a car parked on a side road at night. the problem
- is with detection of low level high frequency sounds in a high
- pressure environment is what i was wondering about. a microphone
- mounted on the roof of a car would have to contend with a wind
- related to the cars speed and pick up a reflected echo.
-
- [An alternative that might be simpler regarding electronics might be
- microwave. I just got a a tech note from MA/Com (ne Microwave Associates),
- maker of the GunnPlexor familiar to hams and the maker of the RF section
- of many police radar units. It is titled "Microwave components for
- motion detection" and is available for the asking from MA/Com.
- 617 272 3000. They show a block diagram for building a simple
- range and heading radar using simple microwave components. It is aimed
- toward direction-sensitive microwave motion detection for burglar alarms.
- This would probably be ideal for your application. I'd want to choose a
- frequency that would not trigger radar detectors (TFT to the contrary :-).
-
- BTW, is this close enough to high performance to continue here?
- I like it but I don't count much :-)
-
- Totally unrelated topic.
-
- I've put a file called chry.ps.Z on the Performance Engineering Magazine (TM)
- file server that is a drawing and instruction for using the Chrysler
- electronic ignition module for general purpose electric ignition
- applications. Fetch it as follows:
-
- Send mail to listserv@dixie.com and in the body of the message put the
- following:
-
- index (so you know what else is available)
- send chry.ps.Z
-
- Sorry, only available in postscript. No text or other format available.
