- I have read with interest the discussion on the film in this newsgroup,
- and wanted to put my two cents in..As a completely different viewpoint.
-
- First of all, I believe there hasn't been much discussion in here about
- it because of the Alt.Vampyres newsgroup, which is where most of the
- vampire stuff wnt after it's formation.
-
- I loved the movie, and I am not ashamed to say it.
-
- I read the book right beforehand, and also read the script, and
- everything else I could get my hands on.
-
- While I found Keanu Reeves accent disturbing, his acting was fine, (to
- me) when you ignored the accent, especially his reaction to the Brides
- feasting on the infant, and much later, when Mina is turning into a
- vampire (on the train to Transylvania) and he says, "Stay with me,
- please."Those two moments salvaged him for me.
-
- The costuming has to be the most daring in years..It is not strictly
- period, but this is a FANTASY, so I don't see why we have to have a
- strict BBC/Masterpeice Theatre type of dress code.I thought the costumes
- and make-up were brilliant. I especially liked Lucy's bizarre wedding
- dress.
-
- I don't want to go into the movie bit by bit, I don't have the time. I
- just want to sum up that, for me, I was completely transported into an
- absynthe dream from the beginning to end. I found the images and effects
- enhanced my experience. I think Gary Oldman is the best Dracula ever.I
- loved the changes they made to the story, it brought it up to date for
- me.This version fits our times better, in my opinion, than a story about
- an evil beast which must be hunted down. The love story was essential to
- my enjoyment of this story. I believe there is alot of that intimated in
- the original novel, and Francis and Hart just took it much furthur.
-
- I know alot of criitics and people have hated. I know alot of people who
- loved it, as I did. It gets better every time I see it! (Five times so
- far!)
