- It really depends on the image, imho. For some images, GIF may be better
- whereas JPEG gives more "quality per kilobyte" for others. Please remember
- that the JPEG system uses some kind of "quality" parameter which is widely
- adjustable. It could be a _local_ policy (local guide server) to have
- the pictures "reduced".

- please! Just say no! There are several packages available - in source - to
- decode gif/jpeg/whatever. If we use our own coding, we have to do it all out-
- selves. I think we could use GIF _and_ JPEG. One of those is suitable for
- almost any picture.
