- I am a researcher at Carleton University, Canada, who is interested
- in sleep/dream related phenomena. Specifically I wish to hear from
- individuals who have had the experience of hypnopompia. Hypnopompia is
- the period of wakefulness immediately following waking up. Some people
- report that upon waking at night or near the morning, they are aware
- that they are awake, but also experience startlingly vivid and
- sometimes frightening halluciantions. They may see people, or animals
- or other forms in their surroundings. Some also hear "phantom" sounds,
- or feel objects which are not there. A common motif is seeing a dark
- figure or an "old hag" at the bottom of their bed. We are interested
- in studying this experience, and how it relates to aspects of
- personality and styles of thinking. If you do have such an experience
- to report, please leave a message on the network. Thank you for your
- time!!
