- :>This is getting quite silly. There appear to be two (very vocal) groups,
- :>one which wants Jonathan as the moderator of alt.answers, and one that,
- :>well, disagrees. "Agreeing to disagree" is a very nice, alt-like situation,
- :>but NOT one that ever, EVER works in the _same newsgroup_.
- :>
- :It doesn't make sense to make alt.answers without the services than Jonathan
- :has volunteered to provide. This being alt, a few people would bash at the
- :group. I hope social pressure would suffice to keep this in control.
-
- What is the purpose for alt.answers? I thought that it's sole purpose
- was to be a 'place holder' where alt.* newsgroup FAQ could be cross
- posted. Right? So who is going to be subscribing to it? Those folks
- who want to see ALL The alt.* FAQ but who not care to subscribe to
- news.answers.
-
- Now, this is such a small subset of folk that if there are those who decide
- to try to carry on conversations, the number will surely be small - and if
- they are not, who really cares - just those who as was described want
- to read the group for the FAQs. And THEY in general know what to do about
- abuse of the group ... just send email, email to the poster's postmaster,
- complaint to the person's mommy, whatever ;-).
-
- The primary benefit of moderation would be to present a slight difficulty
- to the naieve who attempt to post or reply there by accident or ignorance,
- as well as 'authorizing' the moderator to cancel articles which appear
- there without his or her authorization.
-
- If folks don't want the second, and don't feel the first is a big problem,
- then create the group without a moderator. If they feel these will be
- a problem, then either use the moderator who has volenteer or talk someone
- else into volenteering.
-
- Seems simple to me.
-
- :alt.answers.d makes no sense either. Almost all the FAQ lists already
- :indicate proper venues for discussion. A structurally flawed solution
-
- I agree with this - discussion of a particular FAQ typically belongs
- to the group which is being FAQ'ed. If there is a question about alt.answers,
- either the moderator or alt.config seems to be the best place for followup.
-
-
- :I'm basically against moderated alt groups. But the answers charter
-
- I myself am basically against moderating almost any group. But if one
- must moderate, then it seems that just finding someone willing to
- do the duty is all that one should be worrying about.
