  15.      I have just finished setting up a CD server system for the 3
  16. Libraries here at CMU. 
  17. The system is running on the campus backbone using only the Novell
  18. Netware IPX communications. The controller is a product offered by
  19. On-Line Computers called OPTI-NET.  On-Line is located in Germantown
  20. Maryland 20874   at 20251 Century Boulevard  (800) 922-9204. You should
  21. check with them to see how Opti-Net will work with your OS/2 Desktop
  22. environment and your IBM/Token Ring.

  24.   A PC is required to act as the CD server/Opti-Net controller. The
  25. instructions from On-Line state that a workstation can be used as a
  26. combination workstation and CD server. This is a true statement, if the
  27. Search program does not use a lot of space. I tried it,and the first
  28. application program I tested crashed.

  30.   We are currently running 3 Opti-Net servers that can access 48 CDs and
  31. have had no problem with the systems once the configuration bugs were
  32. ironed out.
  33.   Chained  Pioneer 6 Packs and Hitachi multi-drive stacks of 8 readers
  34. are successfully working together on each server.
  35. The 6 Pack~s single reader does slow the hookup & access time.
  36.   Opti-Net allows for up to 100 users and the workstation access to
  37. Novell is not required to use the CD server.

  39.     Another product you should consider is SCSI Express. I~ve heard that
  40. it sets up drive letters that can be seen by Novell.
