- My thanks to Othman bin Ahmad for responding to my earlier post. I should
- have posted from home with my machine in front of me, where I am now.
- In answer to Mr. Ahmad's questions:
-
- : connected properly (light comes on at boot-up), but, I get an error message
- : saying that the drive and/or card aren't ready.
- :: At what state is this? Is it after autoexec had been executed?
-
- This would be just prior to the autoexec being executed. I get a message
- indicating that the OEM CD driver is installed. Then I get an error
- message telling me that the card or the CD is not ready, ABORT OR RETRY?.
- As the drive is internal, sealed tightly and with no jumpers/switches visible,
- the card is not ready. I retry to no avail, then abort.
-
- ::Why don't you post your config.sys and autoexec.bat?
-
- AUTOEXEC.BAT:
-
- f:\windows\AD_WRAP.COM
- @ECHO OFF
- LOADHIGH /R:1 F:\4DOS\KSTACK.COM
- C:\SMARTDRV.EXE
- PROMPT $p$g
- SET BLASTER=A240 17 D1 T2
- PATH= (long string of sub dir's...)
- C:\CDROM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD521X/M:20

- SET TMP=E:

- S
-
- CONFIG.SYS:
-
- DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS R:1 X=B000-B7FF RAM ST:F
- SHELL=F:\4DOS\4DOS.COM
- DOS=HIGH,UMB

- ::When you install the disk, can you see the green light on?
-
- Yes, but curiously, last PM, I discovered that my system thought that the
- CDROM was my "A" drive(!). This stopped when I removed the data cable from the
- SBPRO. I haven't had time to investigate why. Previously, when I selected
- "RETRY" as stated above, at least the green light would come on. The only
- thing different was that I had changed the IO address jumper on the SBPRO
- from the default 220 to 240, and marked this in the autoexec.bat file.
- Otherwise, the light on the drive comes on at boot-up, and during the
- config.sys boot-up. The lines added to the config.sys and autoexec.bat are
- the ones suggested by the distributer, and unfortunately the only help that
- they can offer.
-
- My thanks for your time...
