Laval University is a french language university with an enrollment of
approximately 37,000 students. The Arts and Humanities Library has a
collection of over 20 cd-rom titles that were consulted by more than 5000
users last year.

We are thinking of installing a self-service, self-reservation system.
Presently the service is controlled by the circulation desk. Under the new
system, the user would be responsible for scheduling a time period for
searching on his chosen database. At the scheduled time, he would retrieve the
appropriate cd-rom disc or discs from a cabinet and use them on one of the
workstations. There would be no staff control over either the scheduling, the
loan of the cd-roms or the use of the workstations.

Before proceeding, we would like to know whether any other library has
installed a similar system and whether there has been any problems arising
such as: lost or damage of disc or workstation, conflicts between patrons or
any other problems.
