- OK people. I've heard a lot of people have problems loading either MSCDEX
- or Mitsumi drivers in high memory. I have been able to do so, so I
- thought I would pass along my information. I am doing this with QEMM 6.02
- using Stealth mode.
-
- I think we all have the same drivers, but just in case, here's the info. My
- Mitsumi drivers are version 2.10. MTMCDE.SYS is dated 10-30-92 and is
- 20479 bytes long. MTMCDS.SYS is dated 10-27-92 and is 11761 bytes.
-
- MSCDEX is version 2.21.
-
- I did try to load the drivers without the Stealth option, but had no luck.
- But since they were working with Stealth, I didn't try too hard either. I
- got the problem with the MTMCDE.SYS locking up. Or I didn't have enough
- high RAM to load MSCDEX.
-
- My only other problem is with using the DMA option on MTMCDE.SYS with
- games like Carmen Sandiego or Sherlock Holmes. I finally had to do
- without. The weird thing about this is that the DMA option works great
- with other disks like Simtel or MegaDemo. It may have something to do
- with my Gravis Ultrasound conflicting with the Mitsumi driver. I know the
- DMA channels are fine because I recently had problems with an OPTi chipset
- and had it replaced. And I know it's not the GUS causing problems because
- I already had a different CD-ROM drive that had to be replaced (I was
- installing my GUS and the computer kinda fell over on it's side. Then I
- started getting read errors. :-) Anyway, both these games worked great with
- my GUS and previous drive. But using the drivers without the DMA option
- hasn't seemed to cause me any problems yet.
-
- If anyone would like help, feel free to ask. I'm not an expert or
- anything, but I've had better luck than you have. :-)
