- Having checked my trusty "Little, Brown Handbook", I find that it was indeed a
- simile. NOT a metaphor masquerading as a simile, but a simile.

- The old primary school rules : If it uses "like" or "as", then it's a simile.
- Otherwise, it's a metaphor. Unless it's a verb, in which case you are
- probably having trouble keeping it still. Verbs are the noisy parts of the
- languages, while nouns are the quiet ones that sit serenely, and anchor the
- rest of the sentence. And don't even get me started on adverbs!
