  13. Thyra and Pegasus are -both- looking over Jason's shoulder as he repeatedly
  14. tries to reconfigure the communications software on his cyberdeck. At times
  15. Thyra points to something on the holographic display and whispers a
  16. suggestion, or Pegasus gestures to the display with a wingtip and voices
  17. her opinion.

  19. Suddenly there is a hush among them, then Jason's voice. "OK, wait a minit.
  20. Here goes. . . . " Thyra and Jason cross their fingers, and Pegasus crosses
  21. her wings.
  22.  
  23. Suddenly the display very rapidly fills with over a hundred overlapping
  24. windows.
  25. "YES!!!" shouts Jason. "Yippeeee! We did it!" Pegasus cries out in a whinny
  26. of delight. "At last!" cries Thyra. The three of them start dancing around
  27. the table Jason's cyberdeck is on, capering and laughing like they had just
  28. located the Holy Grail.

  30. Mike comes over to see what all the commotion is about. Thyra leaves Jason
  31. and Pegasus to their mad dance, and explains.

  33. "Well, in September and October, Pegasus had managed to get their home
  34. system to establish a -complete- tie-in with the campus network via modem.
  35. -Everything- worked almost as well as if they were on campus, including
  36. access to the newsgroups (and here) via Newswatcher, which is a Macintosh
  37. newsreader that's light years ahead of VNEWS on the VAX. But she hadn't
  38. written down just what it was that she did to get it to work. After two
  39. months, when they were both thoroughly -hooked- on having unrestricted news
  40. access, it suddenly stopped working. Since then, Pegasus especially, and
  41. Jason too, have been trying to get the link re-established. Between now and
  42. then, we've all been getting by with 'Timbuktu', a software setup that
  43. allowed us to remotely control Jason's office Mac. But that was really
  44. slow, and Pegasus couldn't do it when Jason was at work."
  45.  
  46. "Well, we just got it working again! Evidently there was something wrong at
  47. the campus server's end, 'cause we had confirmed time and time again that
  48. our end was set up right. And we -hadn't- made changes at this end this
  49. time. Pegasus simply tried the software again, to see if -maybe- anything
  50. had changed. Anyway, it means we now have a heck of a lot faster access to
  51. all of the newsgroups now."
  52.  
  53. Pegasus looks over and says "For a while. We'll see if it lasts this time."
  54.  
  55. Jason shouts "Anyway, it works now! Mike, set up a round of free drinks, on
  56. our bill!" He tosses the smiling Irishman a credstick. "That should cover
  57. -at least- one free drink for every being in the Place tonight!"

  59. Pegasus, Thyra and Jason resume their capering and laughter.

  62. Jason & Thyra & Pegasus, oh my!
  63.
