  21. Sorry, I misspoke myself.  Clinton has, via executive order:
  22.     1)  Removed the ban on fetal tissue research;
  23.     2)  Cleared the way to remove the ban on personal importation of
  24.         RU-486;
  25.     3)  Rescinded the gag rule on abortion counseling;
  26. and seems likely to rescind the ban on gays in the armed services.

  28. However, if you look at these four actions, they're all aimed at relatively
  29. small segments of his constituency.  The first satisfies some scientists and
  30. people suffering from certain disorders (though the latter are unlikely to
  31. benefit from the research), and I certainly support it (as I do the other
  32. three points).  The second and third appeal to those opposed to the
  33. fundamentalist so-called "right to life" advocates.  That's certainly a much
  34. broader part of his constituency, but it's still quite small compared to those
  35. who voted for him on the basis of his promises to reduce taxes on the middle
  36. class and cut the federal deficit.
