  24. Not to worry.  I was digging a bit at the other fellow who killed me.
  25. I think that you actually had some justification at being irritated
  26. with me.  I would have made a stronger attempt to deflect my
  27. statement from the appearance of direct criticism had I realized
  28. that it appeared that way.

  30. But I have learned that it is almost impossible to avoid stepping on
  31. toes unless you make your rhetoric extremely effete and 
  32. given that I am not willing to compromise the thrust of my
  33. prose, I merely try to smooth over the inevitable hurt feelings
  34. as quickly as possible.

  36. It is a good thing for people to bear in mind that if I intend
  37. harm or am really angry, I will make that clear in no uncertain terms.
  38. If I do not, it is best to take a whimsical view of my writing and
  39. to extract whatever amusement you can, while realizing that my
  40. posts are frequently NOT without more substantive rhetorical content.

  43. merely ask you to understand that I do recognize the responsibility
  44. to tread lightly on some subjects here.
